Have you ever heard of Milton Friedman, the economist?
Have you seen the documentary Shock Doctrine?
Have you read the book by Naomi Klein?
THE SHOCK DOCTRINE is a gripping and incisive deconstruction of how America’s “free market” policies have come to dominate the world: through the exploitation of disaster-shocked people and countries. THE SHOCK DOCTRINE challenges the myth that the global free market triumphed on the wings of democracy.
Both the film and the book show that governments of the world overexploit natural disasters, economic crises and wars with the very aim of pushing through radical free market policies. Naomi Klein calls this “disaster capitalism.”
Political leaders have turned to brutality and repression in order to crush protests against their own agendas of privatization, deregulation and tax cuts. The consequence is often catastrophic for ordinary people and hugely beneficial to big corporations.

Naomi Klein spent 15 years studying this. Her book shows how U.S. economist Milton Friedman and his “Chicago School” followers, influenced political decisions in the U.S. and as working as advisers to foreign governments and through institutions like the International Monetary Fund, have exploited political upheaval and natural disasters to impose “free markets” around the world.
She tracks the forced imposition of economic privatization, rife with multinational corporate parasites, on areas and nations weakened by war, civil strife or natural disasters.
Friedman's influence on this country's political economic decisions is based on Freidman's teachings that free markets and democracy go hand in hand and together they make people free and prosperous. You're arguing that free-market ideology has triumphed around the world not because people have embraced the market but because the ideology has been imposed on them, often in moments of distress. Furthermore, these moments of distress have sometimes been created by governments as a pretext to bring in free-market policies.
The problem these policies haven't really worked. They've just enriched the people who introduced them. The wealthy and those in power that the wealthy are controlling.
The book and the documentary will awaken you to the truth of what has really been going on, I encourage everyone one to watch it and really learn the facts ! It will shock you as the title says !
